Altough my work was initially influened by Surrealism, it is non-Freudian. Magic Realism is the main inspiration for my painting. The intent of my work is to be direct in a naturalistic sense, yet also have a subtlety that will put the viewer on the edge of reality, as in a dream. I enjoy placing side by side subject matter that is not usually thought of as being consciously related. This is done with the hope of engaging the viewer personally in his or her own private mythology. Often I will deal with stereotypes that apply to societal falsehoods. Fixed notions invite challenge.
